Artistic Research Installation Generative
”A Buddhist Conversation” results in an audiovisual installation that creates an interface between technology and spirituality based on Buddhist imagery and scriptures. The data material has been drawn from two different Buddhist traditions: Indo-Tibetan Buddhism and Japanese Zen Buddhism. The generative visual language developed from these images enables the two traditions to engage in a visual dialogue through two 10.1-inch displays. This conversation is further supported by a verbal layer rooted in two central texts: the Bodhicaryavatara (Indo-Tibetan) and the Hannya Shingyo (Japanese Zen). Through this shared engagement, the installation aims to reveal the inherent spirituality within the data and offer the viewer a spiritual experience. Both traditions pursue, in distinct ways, the idea of leading an ethically sound life, striving to attain transcendent and perfect wisdom — enlightenment.
