Artistic Research Typography

In a scenario where a significant disconnect exists between humans and nature, misunderstandings and misrepresentations may emerge. To bridge this gap, a machine was used as a mediator, merging typefaces from the Google Fonts Library and images of slime mold simulations. Through this process, an AI was trained to produce unrecognizable and new letters, revealing hidden elements in the latent space between humans and nature. Its visual performance is a result of curating, categorizing and sorting, offering the viewers new perceptions and reflections on the shapes of letters, emphasizing form and composition over readability.
The resulting alphabet was presented as a type specimen and mural, bringing the new signs into public space. Today, Unletters/Reletters continues as a digital archive hidden in a random corner of the internet, where meaning must be rediscovered rather than immediately consumed. The letters are preserved on a digital clay tablet, referencing ancient inscriptions that survive as fragments of forgotten languages. Like an archaeological artifact unearthed long after its creation, the work invites future viewers to decipher a language whose meaning remains open.
